Lionel Messi Curses At The Eeferee Following Inter Miami’s Draw With Charlotte.
Lionel Messi avoided a red card despite appearing to unleash a foul-mouthed tirade after Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw with Charlotte FC.
After a two-game goal drought, the Inter Miami star found the net in Saturday’s MLS matchup at Chase Stadium, scoring a stunning goal to equalize after Karol Swiderski’s opener. Messi hit the bottom corner with a powerful strike from outside the box.
Inter Miami nearly clinched a late winner in Fort Lauderdale when Jordi Alba headed the ball back across the goal from Messi’s lofted cross.
Alba’s knockdown reached his former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez, who lifted the ball over the crossbar and then fell to the ground after colliding with Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.
**Messi Curses at Referee After Charlotte Draw**
Messi and his Inter Miami teammates believed that Kahlina had fouled Suarez and that a stoppage-time penalty should have been awarded.
The Argentine was incensed by the decision not to grant a spot-kick and confronted the referee after the match.
According to Ole, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Messi told the referee, “You’re a mean-spirited son of a b****.”
He avoided a red card for the incident and was shown a yellow card for only the second time this MLS season.
**When Will Messi Be Back in Action?**
Although Messi may be frustrated by a third consecutive draw, his team remains at the top of the Eastern Conference with 65 points from 31 matches.
They still have the opportunity to secure the Supporters’ Shield in their next game and could break the MLS points record if they win their final three matches of the regular season.
Tata Martino’s side will return to action midweek, facing Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field on Wednesday.
Having recently recovered from injury, Messi will aim to continue his outstanding campaign, having scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 16 MLS matches.
