Manchester United have reportedly made a decision regarding the potential sale of Mason Mount this summer following his challenging first season at Old Trafford.

Mount, who was a £54.1m acquisition from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, joined alongside marquee signings Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana. However, while Hojlund and Onana secured their places in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup during the 2023-24 season, Mount faced significant injury setbacks, limiting him to just 20 appearances for the Red Devils.

The England international managed only one goal and one assist, leading to his omission from the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024. Despite these struggles, Mount ended the season with an FA Cup winners’ medal. He remains under contract at the Theatre of Dreams for another four seasons, with an option for an additional 12 months.

Despite speculation that Manchester United might cut their losses on Mason Mount to fund new signings, the club has no plans to let the former Chelsea player leave this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Mount is keen to prove himself under Erik ten Hag in the upcoming season.

Mount’s debut season at United was marred by injuries, limiting him to just five Premier League starts and one in the Champions League. However, he has already been named in the starting XI twice in pre-season, playing 45 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Rosenborg and setting up Amad Diallo’s first-half goal in the clash with Rangers.

With his versatility to play out wide, as a number 10, or in a deeper midfield role, Mount could be pivotal for Ten Hag next season, provided he remains injury-free.

Christian Eriksen and Hannibal Mejbri might also leave if suitable offers come in, clearing space for new arrivals like Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, with whom United have supposedly agreed personal terms. Additionally, United might rekindle their interest in Adrien Rabiot, now a free agent after leaving Juventus, following a failed attempt to sign him in 2022.
