Man United ‘Set to Pursue’ 23-Year-Old’s Signature Following Yoro Deal Confirmation
Manchester United are reportedly set to intensify their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte once they officially confirm the signing of Leny Yoro from Lille.
The Red Devils began their summer spending spree on Sunday by acquiring Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, with Yoro expected to be announced as their second signing soon.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Man United plan to escalate their interest in Ugarte, having identified the 23-year-old as their primary midfield target this summer.
Plettenberg reports that the Uruguay international is eager to move to Old Trafford, though the two clubs have yet to agree on a fee despite initial discussions.
Securing a new midfielder is a top priority for Man United this summer, and Ugarte’s arrival could lead to the departure of either Scott McTominay or Casemiro, with Christian Eriksen also reportedly available.
How did Ugarte perform for PSG last season?
Ugarte joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon last summer and made 37 appearances for the French giants during the 2023-24 season, contributing three assists.
All three assists came in Ligue 1, but he also featured eight times in the Champions League, helping Luis Enrique’s side reach the semi-finals of the competition. However, Ugarte was an unused substitute for both legs of the semi-final against Borussia Dortmund, and PSG are reportedly willing to let him leave this summer.
Additionally, Ugarte impressed for Uruguay at the Copa America, playing a key role in helping his country secure a third-place finish.
How much will Ugarte cost?
PSG reportedly paid Sporting just over £51 million for Ugarte last summer and initially aimed to recoup that amount. However, recent claims suggest a deal could be reached for around £40 million, with the possibility of a loan move also being discussed.
Man United are under pressure to make additional first-team sales this summer, with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka linked with exits, alongside Casemiro, McTominay, and Eriksen.
The club is also close to selling Mason Greenwood to Marseille, and a summer departure for Jadon Sancho remains possible despite his improved relationship with head coach Erik ten Hag.
