Newcastle United have reportedly started discussions over a potential transfer for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford during this summer’s transfer window.
Trafford, 21, made 28 Premier League appearances for Burnley in the 2023-24 season but lost his position as the first-choice goalkeeper towards the end of the season.
Despite having a contract with Burnley until June 2027, there is speculation about Trafford’s future, with several clubs reportedly interested in signing him.
According to talkSPORT, Newcastle have expressed their interest in Trafford, and Burnley have set a price of £20 million for the goalkeeper. However, the report indicates that Newcastle are only willing to offer around £12 million.
Trafford, who was included in England’s preliminary squad for this summer’s European Championship, is reportedly being considered by Newcastle to provide competition for Nick Pope next season.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are reportedly determined to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie during this summer’s transfer window.
The 22-year-old made 43 appearances for Leverkusen in the 2023-24 season, including 26 in the Bundesliga, helping Xabi Alonso’s side clinch the title.
Hincapie has three years remaining on his contract, but there has been significant speculation about his future, with several clubs expressing interest.
According to Bild, Atletico have made Hincapie a priority target this summer, and Leverkusen are willing to let him go for around €50m (£42.5m).
The 31-time Ecuador international joined Leverkusen from Talleres in the summer of 2021 and has made 119 appearances for the Bundesliga club in all competitions.
Elsewhere, Celtic have reportedly indicated that Kyogo Furuhashi will not be permitted to leave the club during this summer’s transfer window unless they receive an offer of at least £25 million.
The 29-year-old has scored 73 goals and provided 15 assists in 133 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, including 19 goals and five assists in 50 matches during the 2023-24 season.
The Japan international has a contract with the Scottish giants until May 2027, but several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing him.
According to Football Insider, Celtic will demand at least £25 million before considering a sale this summer.
The report also mentions that head coach Brendan Rodgers is keen to retain Furuhashi, who is also inclined to stay in Scotland. However, substantial offers for the forward would be considered by the club’s management.
