Transfer Rumours: Djed Spence To Genoa, Mats Hummels To Roma, Ander Herrera To Real Zaragoza
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly engaged in talks with Genoa regarding the permanent transfer of English defender Djed Spence during the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old spent the latter half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Genoa, featuring in 16 matches across all competitions for the Italian club.
While Spence still has three years remaining on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, there are strong indications of a permanent departure from his parent club. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are in negotiations with Genoa for a long-term move for Spence, as he is not in the plans of Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
Since joining Tottenham from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022, the defender has made only six appearances for the North London club.
Meanwhile, as reported by Corriere di Roma, Roma are investigating the potential signing of veteran defender Mats Hummels on a free transfer this summer.
The 35-year-old showcased impressive form for Borussia Dortmund throughout the 2023-24 season, featuring in 40 matches across all competitions, including 13 appearances in the Champions League as BVB advanced to the final.
With Hummels’s contract set to expire at the end of June, speculation surrounding his future has intensified.
Roma reportedly consider Hummels a primary target for the upcoming transfer window, although AC Milan is also rumored to be monitoring his situation in Germany closely.
While several clubs from Saudi Arabia and the MLS have expressed interest in the defender, Hummels is purportedly keen on continuing his career in European football.
Having commenced his professional journey at Bayern Munich in 2006, Hummels has amassed nearly 700 club appearances and earned 78 caps for Germany.
In another development, Real Zaragoza is reportedly vying to secure the signature of Ander Herrera this summer.
Having emerged from Zaragoza’s youth system, the Spaniard transitioned to the senior squad in 2009, accumulating 86 appearances for the club before departing for Athletic Bilbao.
During his tenure at Athletic, Herrera made 128 appearances before transferring to Manchester United, where he featured in 189 matches. Subsequently, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.
After rejoining Athletic in August 2022, the 34-year-old contributed to 48 appearances in his second stint with the club. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of June.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Zaragoza is at the forefront of the race to secure his services on a free transfer this summer.
In the 2023-24 season, Herrera participated in 27 matches for Athletic, with 23 appearances in La Liga.
