Liverpool And Bayern Munich Enter The Race For The Relegated Premier League Goalkeeper

Liverpool and Bayern Munich are reportedly considering an approach for a goalkeeper who has recently been relegated from the Premier League. The two European giants have started preparations for the 2024-25 season by appointing new head coaches following the departures of Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

Arne Slot has departed Feyenoord to join Liverpool, while Vincent Kompany has moved from Burnley to take charge at Bayern Munich.

Both clubs are entering a transitional phase, especially after finishing third in the Premier League and Bundesliga, respectively.

Although their primary focus will be on outfield players, it is likely that they will also need to sign a new second-choice goalkeeper in the coming weeks.

Caoimhin Kelleher is seeking more first-team opportunities, despite often being Alisson Becker’s deputy, while Bayern Munich needs a long-term replacement for the 38-year-old Manuel Neuer.

Trafford Drawing Increased Interest

According to Football Insider, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are considering entering the race for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Vincent Kompany, now at Bayern, is familiar with Trafford, having signed the England Under-21 international from Manchester City last summer and giving him 28 Premier League starts last season.

However, Kompany dropped the 21-year-old in March, raising questions about Trafford’s potential for regular playing time at Bayern.

For Liverpool, a move for Trafford would depend on the sale of Caoimhin Kelleher, likely for a comparable fee given their similar profiles.

This fee is expected to be around £20 million, slightly more than the £19 million Burnley paid following their Championship-winning season.

While Burnley doesn’t need to sell Trafford, the level of interest suggests they might.

Premier League Interest from Other Clubs

Since the season ended, it’s reported that Chelsea has added James Trafford to their shortlist, likely with the approval of incoming head coach Enzo Maresca.

Newcastle United are also linked with Trafford, especially with Martin Dubravka entering the final year of his contract and Loris Karius having been released.

Currently, it’s uncertain whether Trafford will prioritize regular first-team football or the opportunity to join a high-profile club.
