Borussia Dortmund Manager Edin Terzic Offers Update On Jadon Sancho’s Future

Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic has revealed that no decision has been made regarding Jadon Sancho’s future. The 24-year-old rejoined BVB on loan in January after his relationship with Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag deteriorated.

Sancho played a pivotal role in helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final, where he featured for 87 minutes in their 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid.

As things stand, Sancho is set to return to his parent club this summer. However, Dortmund are reportedly keen on signing him permanently during the upcoming transfer window.

Terzic praised Sancho’s “brilliant” form since his return but admitted he could not guarantee the forward’s return to Signal Iduna Park.

“Sancho is heading back to Old Trafford as it stands,” Terzic remarked to reporters following the Wembley clash. “Over the last six months, Jadon has been brilliant for us. It took some time for him to regain his shape, but his quality has significantly boosted our game with his first touch. He has improved himself and those around him.”

Terzic continued, “I haven’t discussed the future with him because we’ve been focused on the present. I’m really happy he’s been with us. Playing in a final in his hometown is a very special moment for him. You can feel the joy he brings to the dressing room. I’m very happy to work with Jadon. We don’t know yet what the future holds, but it will certainly include another Champions League final for him.”

Sancho scored three goals and provided three assists in 21 appearances for Dortmund after returning in the winter transfer window. He made three substitute appearances for Manchester United at the beginning of the 2023-24 season before his high-profile fallout with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

Sancho is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2026. Manchester United reportedly seek around £50 million for Sancho this summer and are unlikely to entertain offers below £40 million.

Dortmund’s successful 2023-24 campaign has likely bolstered their summer funds, but it’s uncertain whether they can secure a permanent deal for the former Manchester City youth player.

In his two spells at Dortmund, Sancho has scored 53 goals and provided 67 assists in 158 appearances. However, his performance at Manchester United has been less impressive, with only 12 goals and six assists in 82 matches.

Given his current contract, it’s hard to envision him playing under Erik ten Hag again. However, a managerial change at Manchester United, which is reportedly imminent, could potentially see Sancho return to the club for the 2024-25 season.
