Manchester United Reach Out To 44-Year-Old Manager Amid Uncertainty Over Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United have reportedly contacted the representatives of a manager who could potentially replace Erik ten Hag if necessary. Prior to Saturday’s FA Cup final, there were rumors that Ten Hag was likely to be dismissed regardless of the result against Manchester City.

Despite the speculation, the Red Devils delivered one of their best performances of the season, securing a 2-1 victory over the Premier League champions.

Following the victory at Wembley Stadium, Ten Hag remained defiant, stating that he would “go and win trophies elsewhere” if he were sacked as United’s manager.

Currently, it is widely reported that United’s football operations hierarchy is conducting an end-of-season review to decide whether the Dutchman should continue for a third season at Old Trafford.

In light of the available managerial positions on the market, United appear to be exploring their options.

Man United ‘Approach De Zerbi’

According to The Guardian, Manchester United have reached out to Roberto De Zerbi to gauge his interest in replacing Erik ten Hag. The Italian manager recently parted ways with Brighton & Hove Albion by mutual consent, making him available for new opportunities.

Reports suggest De Zerbi has been considered for the vacant managerial role at Chelsea, although it now appears that Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca is the preferred candidate.

There are also potential openings in Italy that might attract De Zerbi, such as positions at AC Milan and Bologna, the latter possibly becoming available if Thiago Motta moves to Juventus.

However, it is believed that De Zerbi prefers to stay in the Premier League, where he has generally impressed during his tenure at Brighton.

Manchester United are reported to have contacted De Zerbi’s representatives, with minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said to admire his possession-based style of play.

When will United make a decision on Ten Hag?

It is assumed that Manchester United will decide on Erik ten Hag’s future as soon as possible. Any decision is likely to divide opinion among the fanbase.

Despite overseeing United’s worst-ever Premier League performance, Ten Hag has also led the team to win two domestic trophies.

Former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have also been linked to the United job in recent weeks.
