Two Premier League Clubs Have Inquired About A Manchester United Forward
Reportedly, ‘at least two’ Premier League teams have reached out to Manchester United regarding the potential acquisition of Mason Greenwood during this summer’s transfer window. Greenwood, presently on loan at Getafe in Spain, is expected to return to Old Trafford at the culmination of the 2023-24 season. Despite recent statements from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, suggesting a possible return for Greenwood, Getafe president Angel Torres insists that Manchester United have no intention of reintegrating the 22-year-old into their first-team setup.
While Ratcliffe’s remarks initially hinted at a return for Greenwood, it appears that Manchester United are leaning towards selling the academy graduate once the summer transfer window commences. According to The Telegraph, interest from ‘at least two’ Premier League clubs has been expressed regarding Greenwood’s availability for the 2024-25 season.
Premier League interest is reportedly drawn towards Mason Greenwood. However, the report suggests that he is more inclined to join a foreign club this summer rather than continuing his career in English football.
Juventus and Lazio are both reportedly interested, with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona also showing interest in acquiring his services.
Although Getafe would prefer to retain him, the club lacks the financial capability to secure a permanent deal for the Englishman, and the likelihood of another loan agreement is low.
Manchester United purportedly value Greenwood at around £45m. He has made a strong impression at Estadio Coliseum this season, tallying 10 goals and six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
A comeback to Manchester United is considered improbable.
In January 2022, Mason Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman. Subsequently, he faced further arrest on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
Additionally, Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, the case against him was dropped last February.
Having been informed last summer that he had no future at Manchester United, Greenwood was subsequently loaned to Getafe.
Any potential move to another Premier League club would likely spark controversy, as Manchester United is reportedly unwilling to sanction a transfer to an English team.
Greenwood, whose last appearance for Manchester United was in January 2022, has accumulated 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 outings for the 20-time English champions across all competitions.
