Chelsea Intensify Their Pursuit Of A Teammate Of Mykhaylo Mudryk From The National Team.
Reportedly, Chelsea have intensified their efforts to secure the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov. The Ukrainian international progressed through Shakhtar’s youth ranks before making his debut for the first team in the 2020-21 season.
Since then, Sudakov has accumulated 100 competitive appearances for the Ukrainian club, contributing with 19 goals and 18 assists. The 21-year-old has notably excelled during the 2023-24 campaign, registering nine goals and six assists in 33 matches across all competitions.
Recognized as a pivotal figure in Shakhtar’s lineup, Sudakov was recently rewarded with a contract extension in February, extending his deal until the summer of 2028.
Chelsea is intensifying their pursuit of Sudakov despite his recent signing of a new long-term contract. It’s widely anticipated that Sudakov will depart Shakhtar at the end of the current season.
Last month, Shakhtar’s CEO Sergei Palkin disclosed that Sudakov is likely to be sold this summer amid speculation linking him with several top clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
With Sudakov generating significant interest, the Daily Mail reports that Chelsea is escalating their efforts to secure his signature. According to the report, Chelsea has engaged in discussions with the player’s representatives regarding a potential summer transfer.
What is Sudakov’s price tag? The attacking midfielder is believed to possess a staggering £125 million release clause, which is slated to become active in June.
However, Shakhtar is anticipated to consider offers below this figure, as they have set an asking price in the vicinity of £65 million.
While Chelsea might have the financial resources to meet Shakhtar’s valuation, they will likely need to offload players to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Should Chelsea succeed in securing a deal for Sudakov, it would enable the youngster to reunite with his friend and compatriot Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The winger previously shared the pitch with Sudakov at Shakhtar before completing a lucrative move to Chelsea in January 2023.
