Liverpool And Paris Saint-Germain Reportedly Set To Compete For The Signature Of A Chelsea Defender.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in securing the services of Chelsea defender Levi Colwill during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Prior to the start of this season, Colwill had to make a crucial decision about his future after impressing during a loan spell with Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2022-23 season.

Ultimately, Colwill chose to remain with the club he has been associated with since the under-nine level and has become an integral part of the plans at Stamford Bridge.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the 21-year-old has emerged as a key figure, featuring in 27 starts and making five substitute appearances across all competitions this season.

While many of his outings have seen him deployed as a left-back, Chelsea view Colwill as a future mainstay in the central defensive position.

Liverpool and PSG are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding Levi Colwill. However, things could potentially get complicated if interest arises for the England international at a time when Chelsea might need to make significant sales to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Chelsea has yet to receive suitable offers for players like Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, and Armando Broja, all academy graduates who could be sold for the right price. According to GIVEMESPORT, Chelsea officials anticipate receiving enticing proposals for Colwill when the transfer window opens in June.

The report suggests that both Liverpool and PSG are considering whether to make a move for Colwill and what fee to offer if they decide to pursue him. However, it’s also indicated that Colwill may not be eager to leave Chelsea at this stage of his career.

Despite being only 21 years old, Colwill has accumulated 86 senior appearances across three different clubs, starting with Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

While facing tough competition for a starting position at both clubs, it’s conceivable that he could immediately secure a spot in the first XI.

Liverpool reportedly aims to lower the age of their defensive lineup, and Colwill could potentially partner with Virgil van Dijk, especially considering Ibrahima Konate’s intermittent availability due to fitness concerns.

Last summer, Chelsea rejected offers of £40m for Colwill, indicating that they would demand a much higher fee, possibly exceeding £50m, if interest is shown this summer, particularly given Colwill’s contract until 2029.
