Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior is set to undergo a medical examination on Thursday to assess the extent of the injury that forced him off during the match against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian player was substituted in the 102nd minute of the Champions League quarter-final second leg after a collision with Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, which left him visibly uncomfortable as he left the field. Lucas Vazquez was brought on as his replacement.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti stated after the match against the Premier League champions that the team has “no physical problems” ahead of the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday night.
Vinicius Junior’s availability for El Clasico appears uncertain, as per reports from Sport. The forward is slated to undergo a scan to assess any potential injury sustained during the recent match. Real Madrid remains optimistic that it might be only a minor overload injury, which could still allow him to feature against Barcelona.
Throughout the 2023-24 season, Vinicius has been a pivotal figure for Los Blancos, contributing significantly with 18 goals and 10 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. His presence has been particularly felt in La Liga, where he has notched up 12 goals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal also faced a setback during extra time against Man City. However, indications suggest that the Spanish international’s issue was merely cramp, leaving him likely available for selection this weekend.
