Timo Werner Of RB Leipzig Indicates Possibility Of Extending His Tenure With Tottenham Hotspur.

German forward Timo Werner has hinted at the possibility of extending his stay at Tottenham Hotspur beyond the conclusion of his current loan arrangement with RB Leipzig. The 28-year-old has been with Ange Postecoglou’s team for three months now, making a positive impression during his initial period in North London.

In his Tottenham tenure thus far, Werner has contributed two goals and three assists from the left flank in 12 appearances. Notably, his cross led to an own goal by Murillo during Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Eight of Werner’s 11 Premier League appearances for Tottenham have been as a starter, including the last three consecutive matches. Spurs have the option to secure his services permanently for approximately €17 million (£14.6 million) in the upcoming transfer window.

Recently, Tottenham captain Son Heung-min expressed his support for Werner to remain at the club, and now the former Chelsea player has spoken about his contentment wearing the Lilywhites jersey.

Amidst speculation, Werner expressed his satisfaction with life at Tottenham. “I’m enjoying it a lot. Playing with this team, these teammates, in this style and in this stadium… I love it here!” he told reporters following Tottenham’s victory over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

While Werner is content to stay in North London, Tottenham has yet to make a final decision on whether to exercise the permanent option for the German, as Postecoglou’s team remains focused on securing Champions League qualification.

Werner’s time at Chelsea was not as successful as hoped, leading to his return to Leipzig in the summer of 2022. However, despite not reaching his previous form, his contributions have been significant in Tottenham’s pursuit of a top-four finish. They currently sit above Aston Villa in the standings on goal difference with a game in hand.

As for Postecoglou, he has not provided explicit comments regarding Werner’s future.

Unsurprisingly, Werner’s manager has praised his bright start to life at Tottenham, and Postecoglou was questioned about the possibility of Werner staying on in a recent press conference.

However, Postecoglou remained cautious about revealing too much regarding Werner’s future, as the German is still under contract with Leipzig until 2026. He simply stated that the decision would be made “at the appropriate time”.

After Tottenham’s victory over Forest on Sunday, Postecoglou once again commended Werner’s performance, stating, “Yeah, I thought Timo was good. He worked hard, was always a threat, and ran at the opposition really well. He contributed to our first goal. At the moment, he’s performing well. He didn’t start a few weeks ago, but we brought him in because we knew we’d need him, and that’s proven to be the case. We also knew we were acquiring a player who had already played at this level, so he wasn’t really a risk for us, and he’s been a valuable contributor.”

Werner is expected to make his fourth consecutive Premier League start when Tottenham faces Newcastle United at St James’ Park in next Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
