Possible Atletico Madrid Starting XI Against Borussia Dortmund
Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atletico Madrid, faces a last-minute concern regarding the fitness of Memphis Depay ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Depay, who scored the second goal in their thrilling last-16 second-leg victory over Inter Milan, was unable to complete the entire training session on Saturday due to an injury. However, the extent of his injury remains uncertain.
In addition to Depay’s situation, Simeone has two other worries to consider. Mario Hermoso is dealing with a thigh problem, while Thomas Lemar is recovering from a ruptured Achilles.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Depay, it is likely that he will be on the bench. In his absence, Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata are expected to form the strike partnership for Simeone’s side. The midfield trio of Rodrigo de Paul, Koke, and Marcos Llorente seems set to start, with Nahuel Molina and Samuel Lino occupying the wide positions in the 3-5-2 formation.
Former Borussia Dortmund player Axel Witsel is anticipated to face his former team, adding solidity to Atletico’s defense alongside Jan Oblak. This defensive unit is likely to include Jose Gimenez and Reinildo, although Cesar Azpilicueta could be a viable alternative.
Potential Atletico Madrid starting lineup: Oblak; Witsel, Gimenez, Reinildo; Molina, Llorente, Koke, De Paul, Lino; Griezmann, Morata
