According to reports, Liverpool has tabled an offer of €150 million (£129 million) for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, showing their strong desire to acquire him for Anfield. Valverde, 25, joined Los Blancos from Penarol in 2016, initially featuring for the club’s B team before progressing to the senior squad in 2017.
Throughout his time at Real Madrid, Valverde has amassed 246 appearances across all competitions, contributing 19 goals and 23 assists. He has played a crucial role for Carlo Ancelotti’s team this season, featuring in 42 matches across all competitions and providing eight assists alongside one goal.
Although Valverde recently signed a contract extension with Real Madrid in November, keeping him at the club until June 2029, Liverpool is reportedly determined to secure his services at Anfield.
Liverpool has reportedly made a significant bid for Valverde, with a reported offer of €150 million (£129 million) on the table. The Merseyside club considers the South American midfielder a ‘dream signing,’ according to El Debate.
The report suggests that current head coach Jurgen Klopp holds Valverde in high regard, although Klopp will be stepping down from his position this summer. Despite the likely arrival of Kylian Mbappe in a lucrative deal, Real Madrid is not believed to be under significant pressure to sell players this summer.
Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, but he will likely receive a substantial signing-on fee and become the highest-paid player at the club.
Liverpool remains committed to bolstering their midfield despite making significant signings last summer, including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo. These acquisitions were made to compensate for the departures of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Fabinho.
However, the Reds are reportedly still eager to enhance their midfield options for the upcoming season, aiming to add a standout player to their ranks.
Valverde hinted at a potential move away from Real Madrid in September, stating, “Premier League offers? I have the possibility of playing for Real. The day I don’t feel like that, I will probably look for another solution or Real itself will look for one for me.”
In addition to Liverpool’s interest, Manchester City and Chelsea are also reportedly admirers of Valverde, who has achieved success with Real Madrid, winning two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League during his tenure at the Bernabeu.
