Unsatisfied Erik Ten Hag Expresses Dissatisfaction With Manchester United’s Performance Against Brentford.
Manchester United’s head coach, Erik ten Hag, has expressed discontent with his team’s performance during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Brentford in West London. Throughout much of the match at the Brentford Community Stadium, the Red Devils struggled, although they appeared poised to secure a late victory when Mason Mount scored his debut goal for the club in the 96th minute.
However, Brentford refused to concede defeat and equalized to make it 1-1 in the ninth minute of added time at the end of the 90, with central defender Kristoffer Ajer finding the back of the net.
Ten Hag acknowledged that he was “not pleased” with his team’s showing in the capital, emphasizing that the Red Devils lacked “aggressiveness” in their first match following the March international break. He remarked to reporters after the match, “Don’t underestimate Brentford’s performance, as I have witnessed their display against Man City, where City were also fortunate to win.”
Ten Hag unhappy with team’s display in London
“I’ve observed their performance against Liverpool, and in the first 35 minutes, Brentford could have easily taken the lead. We should have handled that situation better. I’m dissatisfied with our performance, there’s no mistaking that.
“The players are also disappointed with their performance, but we need to maintain consistency in our approach to games. We must enter matches with more aggression, particularly in our execution.
“We made some errors that we need to address. In the instance where we conceded the equalizer, we should have responded differently.
“Having said that, if you manage to score a goal in stoppage time, even if it might have been undeserved, credit must be given to the team for their resilience. They fought till the end. However, it seemed Brentford had more desire throughout the game, but we need to assess our performance over the entire duration of the match and beyond.”
Ten Hag delighted with Andre Onana‘s performance
“We were organized defensively, especially in our box, which we executed quite well. Our goalkeeper had an outstanding performance tonight, and it’s important to acknowledge that. Since January, our results have shown consistency.
“We may allow opponents to take shots, but we’ve been relatively effective in keeping the goals out. We’ve been creating scoring opportunities, particularly with Rasmus Hojlund having significant chances. The challenge now is to capitalize on those chances and secure victories.
“In certain moments, we performed well, even though we didn’t necessarily deserve the win. However, it’s crucial to capitalize on those winning moments more frequently. We fought hard and generated some excellent chances, with Andre Onana delivering a standout performance.
“Rasmus Hojlund had a golden opportunity. When you score what seems like a winning goal, it’s essential to see the game through to the end. I’m delighted for Mason [Mount], but there’s also a tinge of disappointment as it should have secured the victory.”
Man United will be looking to bounce back with a victory in the Premier League as they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on April 4th.
