Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho Is Reportedly Set To Make His First Start For Argentina In Their Upcoming Match Against Costa Rica.
Manchester United’s winger Alejandro Garnacho is set to earn his first starting spot for Argentina in their upcoming match on Tuesday evening. Despite being considered a promising talent for both club and country, it wasn’t until this season that Erik ten Hag fully trusted the 19-year-old. Garnacho has amassed a total of 29 starts and nine substitute appearances across all competitions, contributing seven goals and four assists. While he’s become a key player under Ten Hag’s management, the same level of confidence hasn’t yet been extended to him by Argentina’s head coach Lionel Scaloni. Although Garnacho made his senior debut just before turning 19 last summer, he hasn’t played for more than 45 minutes in a single match.
However, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, this situation is set to change in the early hours of Wednesday morning (GMT time) when Garnacho is slated to feature in the starting lineup for Argentina in their friendly against Costa Rica.
Romano suggests that Scaloni is keen to assess Garnacho’s performance during the match in Los Angeles as he finalizes his plans for the Copa America later in the year.
In his previous four appearances for his country, Garnacho has only accumulated a total of 96 minutes. His debut came in a friendly against Australia in Beijing, where he played for the final 16 minutes. This was followed by a 30-minute appearance against Indonesia in Jakarta. However, during the subsequent four World Cup qualifiers, he only made a single five-minute cameo.
Garnacho was not included in the squad for Argentina’s final game of 2023 against Brazil. However, he was brought on for the second half of the friendly match against El Salvador last week.
By the time Garnacho entered the field, La Albiceleste were already leading by two goals and added a third shortly after the break. However, despite fielding a more youthful side in the second half, Argentina couldn’t extend their lead further, settling for a 3-0 victory.
Garnacho’s planned appearance could have implications for Manchester United, as the game on the West Coast of the United States is scheduled to conclude at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning in England.
United’s next Premier League fixture is away at Brentford on Saturday evening. This leaves Garnacho with just three and a half days to recover from a long-haul flight and be ready for the match in London.
