Liverpool And Manchester United Are Set To Compete For The Signature Of A Juventus Forward In The Upcoming Summer Transfer Window
Liverpool has reportedly joined the pursuit of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, with Manchester United also expressing interest in the player. Chiesa, who gained prominence on the international stage during Italy’s triumph in the 2021 European Championships, contributed two goals to Roberto Mancini’s victorious squad.
At the club level, Chiesa has been a part of Juventus for over three years since initially joining on loan from Fiorentina in October 2020.
During the 2023-24 season, the winger has shown decent productivity, scoring seven goals in 24 Serie A appearances overall.
According to Italian journalist Fabio Santini, a new contender has emerged in the race to secure Chiesa’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.
The report suggests that Liverpool has intensified their interest in the 46-time international, initiating discussions with Juventus regarding a potential transfer. This development comes after earlier reports indicating that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were interested in acquiring Chiesa, who has exclusively played his club football in Italy thus far. There are also indications that the Red Devils have contemplated signing the 26-year-old and potentially appointing fellow countryman Antonio Conte as their new manager, succeeding Ten Hag. Jurgen Klopp’s team has reportedly made an offer for Chiesa’s services, although the outcome of their initial bid remains undisclosed. Juventus is believed to be seeking a fee of at least £34 million for the winger, who has scored 29 goals for the club since his arrival in late 2020.
With Juventus aiming to balance their finances to avoid potential penalties, Chiesa is a valuable asset who could be offloaded in the upcoming transfer window.
Moreover, the proceeds from the sale of the Euro 2020 champion could potentially be directed towards acquiring long-term target Mateo Retegui from Genoa.
Despite trailing first-placed Inter Milan by 17 points in the Serie A standings, Chiesa and Juventus remain firmly in contention for a Champions League spot, holding an eight-point advantage over fifth-placed Roma.
Following a run of one victory in five league matches before the international break, Massimiliano Allegri’s side will resume their campaign with an away fixture against Lazio on Saturday.
