Sir Jim Ratcliffe Has Reportedly Reached A Decision Regarding The Immediate Future Of Erik Ten Hag
According to reports, Erik ten Hag will continue as the head coach of Manchester United until at least the conclusion of the current season, with positive feedback on his recent performance from the club’s minority shareholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Despite ongoing speculation regarding Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford and discussions within Ratcliffe’s team about potential managerial changes, there are no immediate plans to replace him.
As per The Guardian, Ten Hag’s position is secure for now, with Ratcliffe particularly impressed by the former Ajax boss. Ten Hag recently guided the team to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Manchester United’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City and their ongoing quest for Champions League qualification in the Premier League further underscore Ten Hag’s continued presence at the helm.
Fifth place is anticipated to secure a Champions League berth for the 2024-25 season, with Manchester United currently occupying sixth place in the Premier League standings, trailing fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by six points.
Despite suffering 11 defeats in the Premier League this season and finishing at the bottom of their Champions League group, Manchester United’s performance in 2024 has shown improvement. They have won nine, drawn one, and lost two of their 12 matches since the start of the year.
Following the international break, the Red Devils will resume their campaign against Brentford, followed by crucial consecutive fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool.
Gareth Southgate, the current manager of the England national team, is heavily linked with the managerial position at Old Trafford. However, it is understood that he is just one of several candidates on the shortlist.
Other names such as Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel have also emerged as potential candidates. Potter has been available since leaving Chelsea in April last year, while Tuchel is set to depart Bayern Munich this summer.
Erik ten Hag has an impressive record at Manchester United, with 62 wins, 12 draws, and 28 defeats in his 102 matches in charge. He led the club to the EFL Cup last season and is aiming to guide them to successive FA Cup finals this term.
Securing Champions League football for next season would be considered a significant achievement given the team’s struggles this season.
