West Ham United Are Reportedly Planning To Revive Their Interest In Harry Maguire This Summer

Reports suggest that West Ham United are set to renew their interest in Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire during the upcoming summer transfer window. Last year, the Hammers were strongly linked with Maguire, but the former Sheffield United prospect opted to stay at Old Trafford and compete for his place in the team rather than moving to the London Stadium.

This season, the 31-year-old has earned the confidence of Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag, featuring in 23 matches across all competitions, including 16 appearances in the Premier League. However, he has faced fitness setbacks, sitting out five Premier League matches earlier in the season due to a groin problem.

Maguire has been sidelined since the clash with Fulham on February 24 due to an undisclosed issue, but he is anticipated to make a return to the squad for the match against Liverpool on Sunday.

Despite his improved performances this season, speculation continues to swirl around Maguire’s future, with Manchester United expected to bolster their defensive ranks by signing at least one new center-back during the summer transfer window.

Maguire’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in just 12 months, although there exists an option to extend it for an additional year until June 2026.

According to The Sun, West Ham manager David Moyes maintains a strong interest in Maguire and intends to pursue the England international’s signature this summer.

The report suggests that Moyes is adamant about acquiring a commanding center-back who excels in aerial duels, and he sees the former Manchester United captain as the ideal candidate.

It is alleged that West Ham would be prepared to offer a transfer fee ranging between £15 million and £20 million for Maguire. However, it’s likely that he would need to accept a significant reduction in wages in order to join the club.

The English player transferred to Old Trafford from Leicester City in 2019 and has since represented the Red Devils in 198 matches, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.

Assuming he passes a late fitness assessment, Maguire is anticipated to feature in the heart of Manchester United’s defense alongside Raphael Varane for Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

Among the current crop of center-backs at the club, Lisandro Martinez arguably stands as the only one assured of remaining at Old Trafford next season. Both Varane and Jonny Evans are approaching the end of their contracts, while speculation surrounds potential exits for Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Last year, West Ham were strongly linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. However, it remains uncertain whether the club will pursue the Scotland international during the upcoming summer transfer window.
