Manchester United Are Reportedly Seeking £43 Million For Mason Greenwood In The Upcoming Summer Transfer Window.

Manchester United have reportedly set an asking price of £43 million for Mason Greenwood, amid widespread expectations of his permanent departure from Old Trafford during the upcoming summer transfer window. Greenwood, who has scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists in 129 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions, has not featured for the club since January 2022 and is currently on loan at Getafe in Spain.

Just over two years ago, Greenwood faced allegations from a woman and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He was later arrested again on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill. Additionally, he was facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, the case against him was dropped last February.

Manchester United had reportedly initially planned to reintegrate Greenwood into their squad last summer, but they ultimately reversed their decision due to the significant public reaction.

The new minority shareholder of the English club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, recently hinted that the 22-year-old might potentially return to the first-team setup at the club.

Ratcliffe pledged to assess “the true facts” before reaching a final decision. However, it is widely believed that Greenwood’s chances of featuring for Manchester United again are slim.

Greenwood has been showcasing impressive form for Getafe this season, netting eight goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are reportedly among the clubs interested in acquiring the services of the forward, who is contracted to his parent club until the summer of 2025.

According to reports from Marca, Manchester United have placed a £43 million price tag on Greenwood, intending to offload him in the upcoming transfer window.

Before his legal issues, Greenwood was widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents in global football. He notably had a standout season for the Red Devils in 2019-20, scoring 17 goals in various competitions.

During the first half of the 2021-22 campaign, the forward continued to impress, tallying six goals in 24 appearances for Manchester United before being suspended by the club in January 2022.

Greenwood has since showcased his abilities in La Liga, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 23 appearances for Getafe this season. However, he missed his loan side’s last match against Valencia due to suspension.
