Brighton & Hove Albion Secured A Narrow Victory Over Nottingham Forest Thanks To An Own Goal By Andrew Omobamidele

Brighton & Hove Albion clinched a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Amex Stadium, courtesy of an own goal by Andrew Omobamidele.

The breakthrough arrived in the 29th minute of the encounter, and despite Forest’s efforts, they couldn’t find an equalizer. Consequently, the Reds remain in 17th place in the table, three points ahead of 18th-placed Luton Town, who have a game in hand.

On the other hand, Brighton has climbed to seventh position, trailing sixth-placed Manchester United by five points with the same number of games played (28).

Both teams came into the match following three consecutive defeats, with Brighton suffering a 4-0 loss to Roma in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday. However, Roberto De Zerbi’s side managed to bounce back with a gritty win.

Brighton had the first clear chance of the game in the 10th minute, but Simon Adingra’s effort lacked the power and accuracy to beat Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Less than a minute later, Carlos Baleba had another opportunity for the Seagulls, but his shot narrowly missed the target, signaling Brighton’s increased attacking intent after a slow start.

Sels was forced into action again in the 16th minute to deny a header from Jakub Moder, as Brighton dominated proceedings at the Amex, with Forest struggling to make an impact.

Forest’s defense held firm to prevent a shot from Ansu Fati from finding the net in the 20th minute, before Adingra blazed over the crossbar from a partially cleared corner shortly afterward.

In the 26th minute, Evan Ferguson narrowly missed connecting with a cross from Adingra, as Forest once again survived a scare. However, the breakthrough did occur three minutes later.

A superbly delivered corner from Pascal Gross caused chaos in the Forest box, initially leading to confusion over the final touch. It was later confirmed that the goal was an own goal from Omobamidele.

The visitors contested that their goalkeeper was fouled, but the referee and VAR deemed the goal valid.

Forest had opportunities to equalize in the following period. Divock Origi’s attempt was thwarted by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, while Morgan Gibbs-White dragged his effort wide. As a result, Brighton held a one-goal lead at halftime.

Forest started the second half aggressively, with Origi missing another chance in the 47th minute after a flick from Gibbs-White.

Verbruggen made a crucial save to deny Murillo, while Selz saved a powerful shot from Fati at the other end.

Chris Wood came close to equalizing in the 70th minute, but his effort from a tight angle was saved by Verbruggen.

In the 78th minute, Verbruggen denied Gibbs-White’s free kick. Forest pushed forward in an attempt to level the score, with Cheikhou Kouyate heading over the Brighton crossbar in the closing stages.

Despite six minutes of added time, Forest failed to find an equalizer, suffering their 16th Premier League defeat of the season.
