The England Women’s Team Is Set To Encounter France, Sweden, And Ireland In The Qualifying Rounds Of Euro 2025
England Women are poised to face France, Sweden, and the Republic of Ireland in an intriguing qualifying group for Euro 2025. The Lionesses aspire to secure a spot in next summer’s tournament in Switzerland as defending champions, having triumphed over Germany in an exhilarating Wembley final two years ago, ending the nation’s 56-year trophy drought.
Due to their absence from the UEFA Nations League finals, Sarina Wiegman’s team found themselves in Pot 2 for the League A draw, ultimately being placed in Group B, where they will contend with the formidable presence of France.
England’s history with Les Bleus includes a quarter-final loss on penalties in the 2011 World Cup, followed by redemption in the last eight of the 2017 European Championships with a decisive goal from Jodie Taylor.
A captivating reunion with Sweden, whom they convincingly defeated 4-0 in the Euro 2022 semi-finals after a heartbreaking experience in the 2019 World Cup third-placed playoff, is also on the horizon. Additionally, a double-header with Ireland, a team yet to qualify for the Women’s Euros, adds further anticipation to the upcoming qualifying phase.
The remaining home nations participated in the League B draw, with Scotland being drawn into Group 2 alongside Serbia, Slovakia, and Israel, while Wales will contend with Ukraine, Croatia, and Kosovo in Group 4.
On the other hand, Northern Ireland is set to face Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Malta in Group 3, while hosts Switzerland will compete against Hungary, Turkey, and Azerbaijan in Group 1.
The top two teams from each of the four League A groups will secure direct qualification to the final tournament. Meanwhile, the third and fourth-placed teams in League A will enter the playoffs alongside the top three teams from each of the League B groups.
Despite finishing last in the League B groups, four teams still have the opportunity to reach the playoffs based on their ranking and Switzerland’s performance as hosts. Additionally, only the five winners from League C are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, where they will be joined by three second-placed teams.
Qualification for Euro 2025 kicks off with the first matchday on April 3, with the Finals scheduled to take place from July 2 to 27 next year.
