The Agent Suggests A Potential Serie A Comeback For Arsenal Midfielder Jorginho
Jorginho’s agent has identified several Italian clubs that could be potential destinations for the Arsenal midfielder after the current season concludes. Since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023, Jorginho signed an 18-month contract with an option for a one-year extension.
During his time at Arsenal, Jorginho has experienced fluctuations in his playing time, featuring in 23 starts and making 18 substitute appearances across all competitions. However, he has recently showcased his significance to Mikel Arteta’s team with notable performances against Liverpool and Newcastle United.
Despite his contributions to Arsenal, Jorginho has been frequently linked with a return to Serie A, where he previously played for Napoli. Despite this speculation, he appears settled in London, having been with the club since July 2018.
At present, it remains uncertain whether Jorginho will extend his stay at Arsenal for another year, or if a decision will be deferred until the club is competing for titles in the Premier League and Champions League.
However, Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has suggested potential destinations for the midfielder, including Lazio, where former manager Maurizio Sarri is in charge. Santos also mentioned the possibility of transfers to Juventus or Napoli, clubs where Jorginho has previously played.
Speaking to TV Play in Italy, Santos stated, “Lazio would be a good fit, especially with coach Sarri, who is familiar with Jorginho’s style. Juventus also presents an option, given their sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, with whom Jorginho has a history from Napoli.”
Santos added, “A return to Napoli shouldn’t be ruled out, especially under the guidance of new coach Francesco Calzona, who has worked with Sarri previously.”
Lazio’s Serie A season has been inconsistent, as they currently sit in eighth place in the standings. However, they do hold a 1-0 lead over Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16, heading into the second leg in Germany.
Juventus, on the other hand, are making strides towards a Champions League return, currently occupying second place in Serie A. However, they trail league leaders Inter Milan by 12 points.
Napoli is undergoing a period of transition, with Francesco Calzona recently appointed as their third head coach of the campaign. The defending champions find themselves in ninth place in the table, trailing the top five by six points, following their recent 6-1 victory away at Sassuolo.
