Manchester City Endure A Setback As Jack Grealish Sustains An Injury During The Triumph Over Luton Town

In Tuesday’s 6-2 FA Cup triumph over Luton Town, Manchester City forward Jack Grealish was forced to leave the pitch. Pep Guardiola’s team secured a convincing victory at Kenilworth Road, securing their spot in Wednesday’s quarter-final draw.

Erling Haaland was the star of the match, scoring five goals, while Kevin De Bruyne assisted each of the Norwegian’s first four goals. Mateo Kovacic also found the net, adding to Manchester City’s six-goal tally as they continued their FA Cup title defense with a dominant performance.

However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to Grealish, who was substituted in the 38th minute for Jeremy Doku.

As he exited the pitch, his teammates offered consolation to the England international, who then draped his tracksuit top over his head upon reaching the bench.

Grealish was making his first start since recovering from a groin injury sustained during the Champions League victory over Copenhagen earlier this month.

Speaking to reporters post-match, Guardiola suggested that Grealish had experienced a recurrence of the same groin issue.

Guardiola stated, “I haven’t spoken to the doctor, but he mentioned some discomfort in the groin, which may be similar. He was feeling really good, but unfortunately, he suffered an injury. It’s been a challenging season for him, so he needs to recover well.”

Grealish’s premature departure on Tuesday is another setback in what has been a challenging season for the 28-year-old, who has found it difficult to secure a regular starting spot.

Despite appearing in six Champions League starting lineups, Grealish has only been handed seven starts in 14 Premier League appearances.

His availability for Sunday’s Premier League encounter against local rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium is now uncertain.

England manager Gareth Southgate will also be monitoring Grealish’s fitness closely, as the Three Lions are scheduled to face Brazil and Belgium in friendlies next month.
