Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a surprising move for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson if Alphonso Davies departs the club. Davies, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of next season, is said to have verbally agreed to join La Liga leaders Real Madrid either this summer or on a free transfer in 2025.

Bayern has been unsuccessful in their attempts to secure a new contract with Davies, and they are prepared to sell the Canada international in the upcoming transfer window if he does not sign a renewal. The departure of Lucas Hernandez to Paris Saint-Germain would leave Raphael Guerreiro as Bayern’s only senior left-back, with right-backs Noussair Mazraoui, Sacha Boey, and Bouna Sarr all dealing with injuries this season.

With the possibility of losing Davies, Bayern is now considering potential replacements, and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez has emerged as a prime target.

According to the Daily Mail, Thomas Tuchel’s squad is now considering Andy Robertson as well. He is currently their top choice to replace Davies for the 2024-25 season and beyond.

Robertson, a Scotland international, has established himself as one of Europe’s premier attacking full-backs since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017. In 282 matches for the Reds, he has scored nine goals and provided 64 assists.

Among his assists, 58 have come in the Premier League, putting him on par with teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold as the defender with the most assists in the competition’s history. Robertson was part of Liverpool’s winning squad in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

In addition to his domestic success, the 29-year-old has also tasted victory in the Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Community Shield, and EFL Cup with Jurgen Klopp’s side. He recently won his second EFL Cup title with Liverpool in a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley.

However, Robertson’s playing time in the 2023-24 season has been limited due to a three-month absence caused by a dislocated shoulder sustained while on international duty.

Robertson’s contributions have been limited to one goal and one assist across all competitions in the disrupted 2023-24 season. Nevertheless, he remains a crucial figure at Anfield and is contracted to the club until 2026.

Given this, Bayern may find it challenging to convince Robertson to leave the Premier League leaders. However, they are aiming for a top-tier replacement for Davies.

Despite approaching his 30th birthday next month, Bayern reportedly believe that Robertson can offer similar dynamic performances on the left flank as Davies did. They hope Robertson will consider a new chapter in his career.

During Robertson’s absence, Joe Gomez deputized effectively at left-back in the winter months. Additionally, Kostas Tsimikas and Luke Chambers, currently on loan at Wigan Athletic, could provide alternative options next season.
