Jurgen Klopp Expressed Confidence, Stating He Is “Fairly Certain” That Wataru Endo Will Commit To A New Contract With Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has disclosed his confidence, stating that he is “fairly certain” that midfielder Wataru Endo will extend his stay with the club on a new long-term contract.

Following their unsuccessful pursuit of several midfield targets last summer, Liverpool opted to invest approximately £16 million to secure the services of Japan international Endo from Stuttgart.

Initially, the 30-year-old had to bide his time for regular first-team opportunities at Anfield. However, due to the club’s extensive injury list, he has solidified his position in Klopp’s midfield over recent months, accumulating 28 appearances across all competitions.

Endo played a pivotal role as an experienced figure within Liverpool’s relatively youthful squad, contributing significantly to their narrow 1-0 triumph over Chelsea in the EFL Cup final, which took place after extra time at Wembley Stadium.

Throughout the match, Endo showcased his tireless work ethic, earning commendation from Klopp for his “exceptional” performance. However, it was reported that he left Wembley on crutches following the game, allegedly due to an ankle knock.

The departing German manager, set to bid farewell to Anfield at the conclusion of the season, has bestowed the title of “machine” upon Endo and harbors optimism regarding the midfielder’s contract extension with the club.

“I’ve mentioned a few times how fortunate we are to have Endo,” Klopp relayed to reporters. “I’m quite confident that in three or four years, Wataru will commit to another long-term contract at Liverpool.”

“Although his passport may state he’s 30 or 31, he’s anything but. He’s a marvel. On the pitch, he displays exceptional skill and is defensively formidable. Yes… tremendously beneficial.”

Liverpool currently feel no urgency to secure fresh terms for Endo, as his existing contract runs until the summer of 2027.

The Reds have three key first-team members—Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, and Adrian—whose contracts are set to expire in June, with no recent indications suggesting imminent contract renewals for any of the trio.

In the meantime, Liverpool reportedly hold a strong belief that new agreements will be reached with Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, all of whom are slated to become free agents in the summer of 2025.
