Manchester United To Sell Midfielder Hannibal Mejbri In The Summer

Manchester United are reportedly contemplating a permanent departure for Hannibal Mejbri when the summer transfer window commences. While at Old Trafford, Mejbri has shown promise both in the academy and occasionally in the senior team but has found it challenging to establish a regular spot in the starting lineup.

Despite attracting interest from Everton during the winter transfer window, the 21-year-old was instead loaned out to La Liga side Sevilla for six months in January.

However, Mejbri’s opportunities have been limited since joining Sevilla, having appeared in only three matches across all competitions and amassing just 38 minutes of playing time.

According to a report from Football Insider, it appears that the tenure of the 21-year-old at Old Trafford may be drawing to a close.

The report suggests that Manchester United would be open to considering a permanent offer for the Tunisia international as part of their anticipated squad overhaul under the guidance of Sirs Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford.

However, it is understood that Sevilla have swiftly concluded, after just one month, that Mejbri is not the ideal fit for their team.

Consequently, unless there is a notable improvement in his performance in the upcoming months, Sevilla will opt not to activate their £15 million option to purchase him.

Other players who might depart from Old Trafford on a permanent basis at the season’s end include Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek, who are currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively.

Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans will both become available on a free transfer when the season concludes, while the futures of Anthony Martial, Antony, and Casemiro remain uncertain.

Mejbri is reportedly considered “surplus to requirements” and could potentially be added to the list of summer departures.

The Tunisian international joined Manchester United from Monaco in Ligue 1 at the age of 16 for a fee around £9.3 million and made his debut for the club on the final day of the 2020-21 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

During this season, he appeared in 10 matches across all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side in the first half of the campaign and scored a goal in their 3-1 league defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion back in September.
