Chelsea, Manchester City, And Manchester United Are All Interested In Acquiring Alessandro Bastoni From Inter Milan
Reportedly, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United are all keen on securing the services of Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. The Italy international remains a crucial part of last season’s Champions League finalist, having started in 19 Serie A matches so far this season.
Bastoni boasts an impressive track record at Inter, having made a total of 191 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and contributing to their Serie A triumph in the 2020-21 campaign. Additionally, he played a significant role in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad that clinched the European Championships in 2021, defeating England in the final at Wembley.
According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United all hold Bastoni in high regard as potential summer transfer targets.
The report suggests that Inter Milan are not in a hurry to part ways with the 21-time international, as the player holds significant importance to Simone Inzaghi’s side, who are in contention for the title.
Currently leading the Serie A standings, the Nerazzurri have lost just one of their first 24 league matches, enjoying a nine-point lead over second-placed Juventus.
While Inter are reluctant to sell Bastoni ahead of the 2024-25 season, it’s understood that they could entertain offers in the region of €100 million (£85.4 million).
Erik ten Hag is reportedly eyeing a defensive reinforcement in the upcoming summer transfer window, especially with Raphael Varane set to depart at the end of the current season.
The World Cup champion has a one-year extension clause in his contract at Old Trafford, but it’s believed that Manchester United will not activate it.
Chelsea is also facing uncertainty over the future of their experienced defender, Thiago Silva, who is 39 years old and could potentially leave Stamford Bridge this year.
Manchester City currently boasts several first-team center-back options, but Pep Guardiola might be interested in lowering the average age of his squad by acquiring Bastoni.
Last summer’s transfer window saw the treble-winning Citizens focus on youthful acquisitions, exemplified by the signing of 22-year-old Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
