Reportedly, Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho does not anticipate completing a permanent transfer back to Borussia Dortmund. Earlier in the season, Sancho faced exclusion from the United first-team squad after publicly responding to criticism about his training level from head coach Erik ten Hag.
This issue remains unresolved, prompting a temporary return to his former club Dortmund during the January transfer window. Since rejoining the Westfalenstadion outfit, the England international has made three starts and two substitute appearances in the Bundesliga, registering one assist.
With Dortmund out of the title race, their primary focus is securing Champions League football for next season. Currently, they are preparing to face PSV Eindhoven in the last 16 of this year’s competition.
To make a permanent deal for Sancho feasible, Dortmund must secure participation in next season’s premier European competition at the very least.
However, BILD reports that Sancho does not anticipate securing a lasting tenure at Dortmund.
Additionally, the likelihood of a second loan spell at Dortmund is considered slim, potentially leaving Sancho’s career at a critical juncture if that situation materializes.
Having played 79 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg over the weekend, it’s probable that Sancho will retain his spot in the starting lineup for Tuesday evening’s match against PSV.
However, United will aim to recoup as much of the £73 million they invested in 2021 as possible, yet Dortmund might not be inclined to meet such demands.
Despite having a varied impact in his 265 minutes back in German football, Sancho has only contributed 12 goals and six assists from 82 appearances for United across all competitions.
Sancho is under contract at Old Trafford until 2026, and recent reports suggest that United will seek at least £40 million in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Realistically, a club from Saudi Arabia is most likely to meet this valuation eventually. However, it remains uncertain whether Sancho would prefer a move to the Middle East or to stay in Europe at this stage of his career.
